With an aim to foster networking among alumni, GIA India hosted a meet-and-greet event at its booth in the recently concluded India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) 2019. More than 40 GIA alumni from all over India gathered for the opportunity to connect with friends and network for business. Not only did the Mumbai and New Delhi GIA Alumni Association chapters participate, alumni from Jaipur, Surat and Kolkata also joined in and suggested meetings be held at regular intervals. Some utilised this opportunity to share ideas on how GIA India can work closely with the alumni association chapters.

Nirupa Bhatt, Managing Director of GIA India and Middle East, said, “Many alumni expressed the value of GIA credentials and how they add recognition and credibility to their careers and businesses. The success of the event is a testimony to how close-knit the GIA alumni network is. We plan to conduct gemmological and professional development seminars to further engage alumni across India.”

“I graduated as GIA Graduate Gemologist® from Carlsbadin May 1999. GIA is the Mecca of gemmology, and gives it a lot of leverage having the best experienced talent in Gemmology. It was a great experience.Having an international qualification in gemmology helped me to increase the family business and a GIA education brings eminence to your brand,” said Ketan Chokshi, Co-Owner, Narayan Jewellers. Speaking about GIA alumni events, he said, “Meeting with alumni helps in gaining a better understanding of global products and market which helps in growing the business back home. Further interacting with people from same industry motivates and leads to personal development.”

“I have completed my GIA Graduate Diamonds Diploma Program from Mumbai in 2005. I would say GIA education is a must for anyone who is in the industry; or wants to be; or is just fascinated by gems and jewellery,” said Vikram Bhat, Managing Director, Kiara Jewellery Pvt. Ltd. and GIA Alumni Mumbai Chapter President. Speaking at the GIA Alumni event at IIJS 2019, “GIA alumni meet always gave me great insights into the business and there has been a lot of learning from peers.This networking platform also presents various opportunities in business.”

“I have completed my GIA Jewelry Design Certificate and GIA Graduate Gemologist® Diploma Program from GIA during 2013 – 14. I have a key role in my business and I am able to deliver it because of the education I received from GIA. Completing a course from GIA,the world’s foremost authority in gemmology, really helps to add value to my profile,” said Shalini Sen, Marketing and Business Development Head, B.C. Sen Jewellers. She further adds about GIA Alumni Association, “This is my first experience with the Alumni Meet. This meet will definitely help us to expand our knowledge on industry developments.”

“I am a proud GIA Graduate Gemologist® from Carlsbad and the first in my family to pursue this course abroad. Today, I am a fourth generation jeweller and will do my best to deliver best with the knowledge received from GIA,” said Vijay Davanam, Chief Product Officer(CPO),DAVANAM Jewellers Pvt. Ltd. Speaking at the event, he said, “It gives me great pride to be a part of such a platform to share and network with fellow Alumni and help each other by interacting and getting latest market updates.”

“I completed my GIA Graduate Gemologist® Diploma Program from Carlsbad. GIA course gave us extensive knowledge on diamonds and coloured stones with great industry exposure and experience,”said YashDhamani, Director, National Facets. Speaking at the GIA Alumni Event, “I feel proud to be managing the GIA Jaipur Alumni Chapter that started in 2016 with 20 people and is now grown to 120 members. It’s a great networking opportunity to meet like-minded people and I hope to expand our alumni chapter to 200 members by end of this year.”
