GJEPC presents 42 gem & jewellery exhibitors at India Pavilion
Hong Kong, the largest export market for gem & Jewellery for India in 2017

IMG-20180621-WA0008Leading 42 gem & jewellery exhibitors from India participated under India Pavilion organized by GJEPC at the June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gems Fair 2018. The event was held from 21 – 24 June 2018 at Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) with an exciting line up of exhibitors and special events. India Pavilion had Diamond, Jewellery and coloured gemstone exhibitors, located at hall 3B-E (35 Diamond Exhibitors), at hall 5B-E (5 gemstone exhibitors), and at hall 1C (2 jewellery exhibitors).The Fair maintained its top spot as the most important mid-year jewellery sourcing event in Asia. Occupying 70,000 square meters of exhibition space, the Fair was strategically divided into specialty pavilions, making sourcing easier for buyers.

Mr. Pramod Agrawal, Chairman, GJEPC said, “Last year, Hong Kong has been the largest export market for the Indian Gem & Jewellery industry. It has always been our effort to give our manufactures the maximum opportunity to showcase their exquisite jewellery collection to markets in and around Hong Kong through this show. June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gems Fair is rightly placed for mid-year jewellery sourcing in Asia and this time we have 42 gem and jewellery manufacturers participating from India under India Pavilion. The platform will be an opportunity for exhibitors to enhance the existing relationship with buyers and create new ones.”

Today, India is renowned across the world as the destination for sourcing quality gems and jewellery. The export of gem & jewellery accounted for US$ 42 billion in 2017. Hong Kong was the leading export destination in 2017 with total exports pegged at US$ 14 billion (33%). Exports of cut and polished diamonds to Hong Kong accounted for US$ 10 billion; Gold Jewellery accounted for US$ 973.40 million, coloured gemstones accounted for US$ 205.70 million.

Currently, India’s gem and jewellery industry employs 5 million workforce and is gearing up to take this to 7 million by 2022. The sector Contributes 7% to India’s total GDP.

GJEPC, over the years, has played a significant role in boosting and promoting country’s exports through various initiatives and programmes. The GJEPC’s promotional activities include organising a number of important trade shows held in the country like the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS), Signature IIJS, India Gem & Jewellery Machinery Expo (IGJME). The GJEPC also organises India Pavilions – participation of a number of companies under the GJEPC banner – at various leading international shows like JCK Las Vegas, Basel, Vicenzaoro and several others worldwide. Focused business matching programs and Buyer-Seller Meets specific to products, delegations to important gems and jewellery centres in other parts of the world, are some of the other trade promotion activities undertaken by the Council.

International Diamond Conference (Mines to Market) and Gold & Jewellery Summit are the events organized by GJEPC for interaction between the main stakeholders to evaluate and also chart the way forward for the industry. The India International Jewellery Week (IIJW) is a jewellery fashion extravaganza highlighting the design capabilities of the jewellery industry, attracting both fashion enthusiasts and buyers from India and abroad.

About GJEPC: The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) was set up by the Ministry of Commerce and industry, Government of India (GoI) in 1966. It was one of several Export Promotion Councils (EPCs) launched by the Indian Government, to boost the country’s export thrust, when India’s post-Independence economy began making forays in the international markets. Since 1998, the GJEPC has been granted autonomous status. The GJEPC is the apex body of the gems & jewellery industry and today it represents over 6,000 exporters in the sector. With headquarters in Mumbai, the GJEPC has Regional Offices in New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Surat and Jaipur, all of which are major centres for the industry. It thus has a wide reach and is able to have a closer interaction with members to serve them in a direct and more meaningful manner.
