World Diamond Congress Bestowed award to Mr. Vasant Mehta

International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA) and The World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) concluded theWorld Diamond Congress that was held in Mumbai, India from October 23 to 25. The Congress is the Biennial gathering of the WFDB and IDMA.
During the congress Mr. Vasant Mehta was awarded by Bharat Diamond Bourse for his remarkable contribution to the Diamond Industry.
Mr. Vasant Mehta served the diamond industry since last 3 decades and worked as (in) various capacity having different designations in GJEPC. He was vice chairman from year 2006 to 2008 and Chairman from year 2008 to 2010. From year 1990 to 2002, he served as the convener of Banking, Insurance and Taxation committee. (BITC), a long span of 12 years of very important tenure.
He along with Nilesh Shah also represented India at several meetings the KP Certificate formation committee since its inception. This participation was of extremely importance at the drafting of KPCS document to ensure the proper representation of the Indian Diamond Industry of small Diamonds.
Mr. Vasant Mehta represented GJEPC in IDMA from year 2000 to 2012 and WFDB from 2000 to 2005.
In addition, Mr. Mehta organized and led several successful BSM (buyer seller meet) in : Shenzhen , Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou in China. During his visit the Commerece minsitry of China bestowed award of “Advisor to China Diamond Industry” to him.
Mr. Mehta played key role in getting initial permission from commerce ministry of Government of India for start of reimport of polished diamond after certification from GIA, HRD, IGI and other credible laboratories.
During his tenure as Chairman of GJEPC in the year 2008-09 he led the industry successfully and worked prudently for temporary stoppage of import of rough diamonds into India to tide over the -the so called “Lehman Borthers led economic crises”.
As the vice president of IDMA he played a key role in WFDB’s deliberations for resumption of import of rough diamonds from Zimbabwe.
