Bharat Diamond Bourse [BDB] celebrated its 12th anniversary with high profile guests and a musical evening. Eminent personalities and dignitaries graced the day and participated in a musical program organised to commemorate the feat of completion of 12 glorious years since inception of Bharat Diamond Bourse complex. The Chief Guest for the evening was Shri Roopam Kapoor Chief Commissioner of Customs and Guests of Honor Were Shri Manish Tiwari Commissioner of Customs, Mr Frank Geerkens The Consulate General of Belgium In Mumbai, Ms Supatra Sawaengsri, Council For Trade Thailand, Ms Rebecca Drilliag, US Vice Council, Dr Radhakrishna Pillai. Bharat Diamond Bourse has come a long way in servicing the Diamond Industry and help the sector expand and grow. During the speech of Mr Anoop Mehta and Mr Mehul Shah, the participants were taken through the tough period that the Diamond sector had before the formation of the bourse such as lack of accessibility to customs department for export of precious stones, fear of theft and robbery functioning from an insecure environment and other challenges. Bharat Diamond Bourse formation and construction was indeed a blessing to the entire Diamond Industry. The bourse today is pitted to be the most secured complex with zero crime rate housing a world class infrastructure with in house customs department, Banking facilities and Food courts. Small and Medium sized companies over time have grown to become largest of companies in the world in the sector, thanks to the facilities offered by the bourse to the members. In his speech Mr Roopam Kapoor commissioner of Customs, Government of India appreciated the managing committee for a commendable job they have undertaken for the Diamond Industry and also added that the customs department is happy to service the Industry that is responsible for the large share of foreign exchange into the country.

Mr Anoop Mehta, President of Bharat Diamond Bourse added, “It is indeed my privilege to have served the Bourse all these years and am truly happy to celebrate this momentous occasion of completion of 12th year of the complex with the members, dignitaries and stakeholders of the Industry”.

Mr Mehul Shah, Vice President Bharat Diamond Bourse in his speech took the dignitaries, members and participants on a nostalgic moment of how the Industry functioned before the complex was created and how the progress has been since BDB complex’s inception. He said ” It is indeed commendable how the BDB complex has worked for the members to grow and provided a world class infrastructure and ease of doing business. I deeply thank the dignitaries present, the customs department for always being there to support our members and all our members and staff to have brought success to the member companies and made it the world’s largest and most securitised bourse. I would also like to add here that BDB was inspired by the Israel Diamond Exchange based in Ramat Gan.

Israel Diamond Industry has been a front runner in bringing in Innovative Technology & Machine tools for the Industry and is one of the most important Diamond economies in the world today. Before designing the Bourse a team was sent from Mumbai to Israel to study the Israel Diamond Exchange and I am truly thankful to the Israel Diamond Exchange team to have supported and encouraged BDB by providing knowledge and information”.
